Multiple ERP Instances in GBS"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Introduction<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">For <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/category\/shared-services-leadership\/\">Global Business Services<\/a> to achieve the greatest results, there needs to be an emphasis on end-to-end process design, reducing complexity, and taking advantage of size and scale.\u00a0 While many bolt-on solutions can be successfully deployed, reducing system complexity by having as few instances of a common <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/e\/erp.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ERP system<\/a> as possible is often the greatest contributor to achieving success.\u00a0 In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/2011\/09\/lessons-from-a-shared-services-led-global-erp-implementation\/\">multiple ERP system environments<\/a>, it is very difficult to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/2015\/11\/the-benefits-of-utilizing-global-process-owners-in-shared-services\/\">standardize processes or optimize your end-to-end process design<\/a>.\u00a0 Being on one ERP is better and being on a single instance of one ERP is the best.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>iPolling<sup>TM<\/sup> Results Review<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Peeriosity\u2019s iPolling<sup>TM<\/sup> was used to better understand Peeriosity member companies\u2019 ability to reduce system complexity by transitioning to a smaller number of EPR instances.\u00a0 The results indicate that 36% of companies are running a single instance globally, with only 9% reporting that they have little or no standardization of their ERP systems.\u00a0 23% indicate they are standard across multiple regions, 14% are standard within a region, and 9% are standard within a country.\u00a0 Note that some companies who responded with a response of \u201cless than global\u201d did so because their businesses are not global.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4398\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image-2.png\" alt=\"poll on Highest level of ERP system standardized in companies\" width=\"663\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image-2.png 663w, https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image-2-300x183.png 300w, https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image-2-491x300.png 491w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 663px) 100vw, 663px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">When asked about the amount of time until companies expect to be running on one instance of their ERP system company-wide, 48% indicated that they already are doing so.\u00a0 An additional 19% expected to get there within 3 to 5 years, and 10% think it will take longer than 5 years.\u00a0 The balance of 24% indicated that having one instance of their ERP isn\u2019t their company\u2019s ultimate goal.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image-3.png\" alt=\"poll on the timeline of running one instance of ERP system company wide\" width=\"663\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image-3.png 663w, https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image-3-300x182.png 300w, https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/image-3-494x300.png 494w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 663px) 100vw, 663px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Here are some of the comments from members:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"font-14\">\r\n<li><em>We went live with 1 global SAP system at the end of 2020 after many years of operating in multiple SAP and non-SAP systems.<\/em><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"font-14\">\r\n<li><em>We have only one main ERP (SAP), but it has multiple instances currently. We are working to upgrade right now but will maintain multiple instances of the same platform (SAP S\/4).<\/em><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"font-14\">\r\n<li><em>We were uniquely fortunate to be &#8216;born&#8217; from a spinoff directly onto a global single instance SAP environment.<\/em><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"font-14\">\r\n<li><em>Have had several failed attempts to move to one ERP. Currently moving to a single financial system of record (S4Hana) as opposed to true single ERP.<\/em><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><strong>Closing Summary<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">The ability of Global Business Services (GBS) to influence the company\u2019s decisions regarding standardizing on an ERP system platform, and then further reducing complexity by limiting the number of instances on that platform, will vary greatly depending on the unique circumstances at the company.\u00a0\u00a0 Fortunately, for many companies moving to as few instances as possible is worth the investment for many reasons, with the positive impact on GBS being one of many benefits.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">How many ERPs does your company have, and how many instances of each ERP are there?\u00a0 What is your strategy for reducing the number of ERP instances?\u00a0 In what ways does your GBS design take advantage of your company\u2019s systems strategy?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Who are <em>your<\/em> peers and how are you collaborating with them?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>______________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\">\u201ciPolling<sup>TM<\/sup>\u201d is available exclusively to Peeriosity member company employees, with consultants or vendors prohibited from participating or accessing content.
