to grow in popularity as external service providers improve the quality of their services.\u00a0 It is important that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/category\/shared-services-leadership\/\">Shared Services leaders<\/a> develop a strategy related to outsourcing so that they clearly understand how this alternative fits into the overall strategy.\u00a0 In addition, having a formal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/2021\/09\/shared-services-delivery-outsourced-or-captive\/\">outsourcing strategy<\/a> will help protect Shared Services by ensuring the evaluation for how to best source services is completed by those who understand the processes best, rather than being based on a \u201cbest guess\u201d by senior company management in response to an unsolicited bid from a service provider.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">As part of a recent Peeriosity Peercast<sup>TM<\/sup> on the topic of \u201cDeveloping a Shared Services Outsourcing Strategy\u201d, a major consumer products company shared their experiences in not only developing their outsourcing strategy but also what they learned in executing that strategy.\u00a0 While the full details of their presentation, including the recording of the Peercast<sup>TM<\/sup>, are available on demand to Peeriosity members, the following is a list of some of the key learnings that were shared with the other companies:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Scope<\/strong><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Define scope, document assumptions\u00a0 and changes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Prioritize requirements and \u201cstay the course\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Business Orientation for Suppliers<\/strong><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Ensure that providers understand your business, scope, and complexity.\u00a0 Define what differentiates your company from other clients.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Prepare thoroughly for provider informational and deep dive workshops<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Due Diligence<\/strong><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Define selection criteria upfront \u2013 including cultural and partner compatibility<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peeriosity.com\/shared-services\/articles\/2012\/10\/knowledge-management-and-shared-services-a-perfect-match\/\">proper change management<\/a>, with an extensive list of learnings to keep in mind in this area when carrying out an outsourcing transition project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A supporting iPolling<sup>TM<\/sup> question asked about the overall strategy related to outsourcing Shared Services processes.\u00a0 By far, the most prevalent response was \u201cCaptive with selective outsourcing\u201d, which was the strategy of 50% of the participating companies.\u00a0 This was followed by 20% of the companies preferring a solely captive approach, with no outsourcing component, and an additional 15% that utilize a hybrid model that is trending towards more use of outsourcing.\u00a0 Interestingly, only 10% have embraced the large-scale BPO approach where almost all work activities are outsourced.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img
